Chandigarh, July 11 (K.L. Jit Walia):The Sahitya Vigyan Kendra, Chandigarh, organized a special literary gathering at the T.S. Central State Library, Sector 17, Chandigarh, where renowned poet Parminder Singh Aziz’s book of songs and ghazals titled “Ibadatnama” was formally released.
The presidium included Dr. Davinder Boha (Former District Language Officer, Mohali), Dr. Parmjit Singh (Associate Professor), author Parminder Singh Aziz, Gurdarshan Singh Mavi (President of Sahitya Vigyan Kendra), and Davinder Kaur Dhillon.
Welcoming the guests, Gurdarshan Singh Mavi outlined the objectives and schedule of the event. Delivering the presidential address, Dr. Davinder Boha emphasized that family support plays a vital role in a writer’s creative journey. He said that ghazals reflect and address social issues, congratulating the author for describing the ghazal as an act of devotion and songs as prayers.
Dr. Avtar Singh Patang congratulated the author and remarked that true literature is that which naturally expresses itself and compels readers and listeners to engage with it.
Poet Jaspal Singh Desuvi, who resides abroad, observed that writing meaningful ghazals without the guidance of a mentor is extremely difficult.
Speaking on the occasion, Deepak Chanarthal, President of the Punjabi Writers’ Association, said that a writer knows what he is writing and why he is writing it. According to him, a great book is one that stands out among many others and inspires readers to pick it up.
Presenting a critical review of the book, Dr. Parmjit Singh praised the poet’s well-structured rhythm, emotional depth, and command over both Punjabi and Urdu literary traditions. He noted that the ghazals beautifully blend patience, humility, and heartfelt expression.
Author Parminder Singh Aziz explained that the title Ibadatnama reflects his deep spiritual connection with poetry. He described ghazals as the nourishment of his soul and shared one of his favorite ghazals with the audience.
During the event, Dr. Manjit Singh Ball, Balwinder Dhillon, Bharpur Singh, Ratan Babakwala, Pratap Paras Gurdaspuria, and Davinder Kaur Dhillon recited selected compositions from the book.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Gurdarshan Singh Mavi, while Davinder Kaur Dhillon efficiently conducted the proceedings.
A large number of distinguished writers, poets, literary enthusiasts, and guests also attended the event.
