Railways Safely Evacuate 107 Passengers
Amritsar, July 5 (Uppal):Rail traffic on the Kalka–Shimla railway section was temporarily disrupted after a hill slip (landslide) occurred at Kilometre 68/13 between Kathleeghat and Kano (KEJ–KANO). Despite the natural incident, Northern Railway acted swiftly to ensure the safety of all passengers and arranged effective alternative transportation.
According to railway officials, Train No. 52452, the Shimla–Kalka Shivalik Deluxe Express, was safely brought back to Kathleeghat Railway Station from the affected section. A total of 107 passengers were on board the train.
Throughout the incident, the railway administration maintained constant communication with passengers through the onboard Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and telephone updates, providing timely information and reassurance.
To facilitate onward travel, three buses were arranged at Kathleeghat Railway Station. The buses departed at 10:24 p.m., safely transporting 97 passengers to Kalka Railway Station. Upon arrival at Kalka, passengers were provided with meal packets and drinking water.
To ensure passengers could continue their journey without further inconvenience, the departure of Train No. 13052, the Kalka–Howrah Mail, was delayed by 60 minutes. After the buses reached Kalka at 12:30 a.m., all onward passengers were safely accommodated on the train.
Northern Railway demonstrated a prompt and well-coordinated response during the natural disruption by prioritizing passenger safety, continuous communication, and alternative transport arrangements. The railway administration thanked passengers for their patience and cooperation, expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, and reaffirmed that ensuring safe and comfortable travel remains its highest priority.
