Amritsar, May 20 (K.L. Jit Walia) – Taking a significant step toward reducing the growing burden of obesity, diabetes, and lifestyle-related diseases, Livasa Hospitals Amritsar has launched an Integrated Diabetes, Obesity and Weight Management Clinic under the leadership of Dr. Ashish Sinha, Senior Consultant – Internal Medicine and Diabetes.
An awareness session was conducted by Dr. Ashish Sinha along with dietitian Ms. Dancy, where evidence-based and long-term effective approaches for weight management and metabolic health were discussed.
Dr. Ashish Sinha stated that obesity is a complex and chronic disease influenced by physical, genetic, and environmental factors and is not merely the result of weak willpower or lack of self-control. He emphasized that effective obesity management requires a multidisciplinary and patient-centered approach focused on achieving long-term health outcomes rather than temporary weight loss.
During the session, experts highlighted four major pillars of modern obesity management. These included Medical Nutrition Therapy, focusing on balanced calorie intake and nutrient-rich diets; Physical Activity, recommending at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise and resistance training per week; Behavioral Changes, involving counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy to manage emotional eating and stress-related habits; and Advanced Treatment Options such as medications and bariatric surgery.
Dr. Sinha further explained that even a 5–10% reduction in body weight can significantly improve metabolic health, blood sugar control, and reduce the risk of heart diseases. He encouraged individuals struggling with obesity and diabetes to seek expert medical advice for scientific and personalized treatment plans.
On this occasion, Anurag Yadav, CEO of Livasa Hospitals, said that the clinic will strengthen preventive and lifestyle-based healthcare services and provide comprehensive, patient-focused treatment.
Jatinder Arora emphasized that along with timely treatment, continuous awareness and preventive care are extremely important in tackling diseases like obesity and diabetes.
Rajiv Kundra stated that the clinic will bring doctors, dietitians, and lifestyle experts under one roof to offer scientific and accessible treatment solutions for patients.
The newly launched clinic will provide services including medical weight-loss programs, diet and lifestyle counseling, obesity risk assessment, diabetes management, and long-term weight control support.
