Amritsar, May 20 (K.L. Jit Walia) – Leaders and active members of the globally recognized organization, World Sikh Chamber of Commerce, including Parmeet Singh Chadda and Rajinder Singh Marwaha, organized a special prayer gathering at the Plaza of Sri Harmandir Sahib’s Ghanta Ghar Chowk, seeking blessings from Sri Guru Ramdas Ji Maharaj for the restoration of trade and business through the Attari-Wagah border between India and Pakistan.
During the ardas, members prayed that the governments of India and Pakistan resolve tensions through dialogue and restart trade activities via the Attari-Wagah border route. The organization stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often emphasized at international forums that wars are not the solution to disputes and that issues between nations should be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations.
The World Sikh Chamber of Commerce appealed to the Prime Minister to initiate talks with Pakistan so that trade between India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Central Asian countries through the Attari-Wagah border could resume, bringing economic growth back to Punjab.
It is noteworthy that before the Pulwama incident in February 2019, traders and businessmen from Amritsar and other regions of India conducted trade worth more than ₹4,000 crore with Pakistan, Afghanistan, and neighboring countries. This trade provided employment to transporters, laborers, porters, small shopkeepers, and workers in the border region. However, since trade operations through the Integrated Check Post at Attari were halted, many people have been left unemployed.
The members also recalled that Sri Guru Ramdas Ji Maharaj had historically settled entrepreneurs from Lahore, Kasur, Patti, and other places in Amritsar, contributing greatly to the city’s commercial development. They prayed for favorable conditions to be created for the reopening of border trade so that economic prosperity could return to Amritsar and the entire Punjab region.

After the prayer gathering, all participants, under the leadership of Parmeet Singh Chadda and Rajinder Singh Marwaha, carried out a peaceful and disciplined march from Ghanta Ghar Chowk to Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chowk on Heritage Street.
