Amritsar, April 24 (K.L. Jit Walia) – Marking World Malaria Day, the Health Department in Amritsar launched a large-scale awareness campaign to educate the public about prevention of malaria and dengue. Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Dr Satinderjeet Singh Bajaj, awareness teams were flagged off from the Civil Surgeon’s office to different parts of the district.
Addressing the occasion, Dr. Bajaj emphasized that preventing mosquito breeding is the most effective way to combat malaria and dengue, stating that prevention is more important than treatment.
He explained that malaria is a vector-borne disease transmitted through the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Common symptoms include high fever with chills, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, vomiting, and in some cases bleeding from the nose, mouth, or gums. He urged people to immediately seek free testing and treatment at government hospitals if such symptoms appear.
District Epidemiologist Dr Harjot Kaur informed that health teams are actively conducting fogging, spraying, and awareness drives across the district, with special focus on identified hotspot areas.
District MEIO Amardeep Singh added that awareness is being spread through posters, banners, and pamphlets to educate citizens about preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases.
Among others present on the occasion were Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajinderpal Kaur, District Health Officer Dr. Jaspal Singh, District Immunization Officer Dr. Rashmi Vij, AMO Gurdev Singh, and several other staff members including Preetpal Singh, SI Sukhdev Singh, Gurkiran Singh, Balwinder Singh, Harkamal Singh, Harmeet Singh, Ranjot Singh, and Kuldeep Singh.
