Amritsar January 13 (K L Jit Walia): Under the joint auspices of the International Cultural Forum (Canada India USA UK) National President Balwinder Kaur Pandori and Khalsa University Amritsar a grand state level function titled Virasat-e-Punjab Lohri Dheeyan was organized at the university campus.
Dean Languages and Head Punjabi Department Khalsa University Amritsar Dr Raminder Kaur and Dr Surinder Kaur Dean Academics Khalsa University Amritsar were present as chief guests. The program was presided over by retired District Language Officer Gurdaspur and Amritsar and National Award winner Dr Paramjit Singh Kalsi.
Special guests included Dr Sukhbir Kaur Mahal former principal and management committee member Dr Kiranpreet Kaur District Social Security and Welfare Officer Gurdaspur Bajinder Singh Assistant Director Income Tax Department Government of India and social worker Satbir Singh Amritsar.
At this state level Lohri ceremony dedicated to daughters renowned Punjabi folk singer Bibi Ranjit Kaur was honored with the Padma Vibhushan Gurmeet Bawa Memorial Award. She was presented with a cash prize a citation and a ceremonial loi.
The program began with the ritual of lighting the bonfire by the chief and special guests during which Lohri was sought and traditional Lohri songs were sung. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp to formally inaugurate the event.
On this auspicious occasion famous folk singer Glory Bawa cultural singers Aujla Brothers Bibi Ranjit Kaur and singer Biba Kamal Sidhu presented songs dedicated to daughters creating a festive atmosphere and conveying the message of respect for girls.
In their addresses chief guests Dr Raminder Kaur Dr Surinder Kaur and Dr Paramjit Singh Kalsi said that sacred festivals like Lohri inspire society to strengthen mutual brotherhood honor daughters and promote welfare oriented activities.
Hundreds of girls present thoroughly enjoyed the Lohri celebrations on the cultural performances of Aujla Brothers and Glory Bawa. Stage proceedings were conducted by Dr Gurminder Kaur Reena Hans and Satwant Kaur Satti. Child artists including Warsajot along with children under the leadership of stage general secretary Mahikpreet Singh and Malkpreet Kaur also gave impressive cultural performances.
At the conclusion of the ceremony the chief guests special guests and the presiding guest honored distinguished personalities from various districts with ceremonial lois mementos and citations. These included social worker Satbir Singh Swaran Singh Gill Moga renowned lyricist Harvinder Tiwana USA Dr Jaswinder Kaur Dr Sukirat Singh MD Hargun Hospital Amritsar video director Gaggi Singh Ropar Kulwinder Kaur casting director Lalit Mehta video director actress Kulwinder Kaur Jyoti Sehgal casting director Dr Ravinder Kaur Head Punjabi Department renowned critic Dr Gurwant Singh state awardee Ravinder Kaur Sohan Singh Gaido Dussanjh Tasvinder Singh Vadaich Bajinder Singh Assistant Director Income Tax Department Satwant Kaur Satti Jalandhar Nirmal Kaur Kotla Satinder Singh Oti Baljeet Kaur Navdeep Kaur Swaran Singh Gill Moga and many other eminent personalities.
