“Elaborate arrangements will be made at temples; devotees will not face any inconvenience” — Senior Deputy Mayor Priyanka Sharma
Amritsar, September 2 (K.L. Jit Walia, Sham): In view of the holy festival of Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Senior Deputy Mayor of Amritsar Priyanka Sharma has launched a special campaign. As part of the campaign, she is meeting members of various temple committees and reviewing cleanliness arrangements in and around temple premises, along with facilities being provided to devotees.
As part of the initiative, Priyanka Sharma held a special meeting with Prof. Lakshmikanta Chawla, President of Sri Durgiana Tirath, and members of the committee. On the occasion, she said that, as was done last year, discussions are being held with major temple committees across the city regarding cleanliness and other necessary arrangements for the holy festival of Sri Krishna Janmashtami.
She said temple committees are being urged to ensure adequate and proper arrangements so that devotees do not face any kind of inconvenience. The Municipal Corporation Amritsar is also ready to extend all possible assistance to temple committees in connection with the festival.
She said that if any issue related to streetlights, garbage lifting or any other civic facility arises, the Municipal Corporation team will take immediate action to resolve it. Appealing to devotees and city residents, she said public cooperation is extremely important for maintaining a smooth and effective cleanliness system.
She urged people not to throw empty plastic bags used for puja materials or other items as garbage at public places. She appealed to all city residents to collectively celebrate the holy festival of Sri Krishna Janmashtami with cleanliness and proper arrangements, so that others are also encouraged to contribute towards keeping the surroundings clean.
Prof. Chawla Appreciates the Campaign
Prof. Lakshmikanta Chawla, President of Sri Durgiana Tirath, appreciated the campaign being conducted by Senior Deputy Mayor Priyanka Sharma. She said that every city resident should become a part of this initiative launched in view of the holy festival of Sri Krishna Janmashtami. She added that everyone should support such initiatives undertaken by people dedicated to public service.
Appeal to Langar Committees to Avoid Plastic
A large number of devotees visit temples on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami, while various langar committees also set up langars for devotees.
Senior Deputy Mayor Priyanka Sharma made a special appeal to langar committees to avoid the use of plastic, stating that plastic is harmful to human health as well as the environment. She urged committees to avoid using thermocol and instead use leaf-made pattals (biodegradable plates).
She also appealed to langar committees to place dustbins around langar sites so that cleanliness can be maintained properly and efficiently.
