Amritsar, September 1 (K.L. Jit Walia): Advocate Harpal Singh Nijjar, Chairman of the Aam Aadmi Party Legal Wing, Majha Zone, AAP Block President and President of the Bar Association, Ajnala, has strongly reacted to the visit by some BJP MPs to the family of former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar to offer condolences following his death. Sajjan Kumar had been convicted in a case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh violence.
Advocate Nijjar said that the painful period of 1984 left deep wounds on the Sikh community, the pain of which is still felt today. He said that political leaders must act with utmost seriousness and responsibility when dealing with matters involving such sensitive issues.
He said that respecting the sentiments of the Sikh community is the responsibility of every political party and public representative. If any political action or conduct hurts the sentiments of the community, every citizen has the democratic right to raise their voice against it peacefully.
Advocate Harpal Singh Nijjar said that the Aam Aadmi Party is committed to maintaining peace in Punjab, promoting communal harmony and ensuring respect for all religions. He said that the injustice suffered by the Sikh community can never be forgotten and that the struggle for justice, truth and human rights will always continue through constitutional and democratic means.
He further said that Punjab is the land of Gurus, saints and martyrs, where sacrifice, justice and humanity are accorded the highest place. Therefore, no political party has the right to ignore the sensitive sentiments of Punjab and the Sikh community.
Advocate Nijjar said that no one would be allowed to “use the wounds of the Sikh community for political gains” and that the Aam Aadmi Party would continue to raise its voice strongly on issues concerning Punjab’s honour, the sentiments of the Sikh community and justice.
