Amritsar, August 24 (Phulljit Singh Verpal/Parveen Pandit): A joint major action was carried out by Akal Sewa Foundation and the district administration against people allegedly involving small children in begging in Ranjit Avenue and other areas of Amritsar. Social worker Sarabjit Singh Sonu Jandiala and his team played a special role in the campaign.
Speaking to the media, social worker Sarabjit Singh Sonu Jandiala said that Akal Sewa Foundation has been running a campaign for a long time against the practice of making young children beg. Similar actions have been carried out in various parts of Punjab with the cooperation of the administration.
He said that Tarnadeep Singh, Chief Officer of the District Child Department, along with his entire team, has also been taking continuous action against those involving children in begging in Amritsar. During the latest operation, a large number of people and children were taken into custody from different locations.
Sarabjit Singh Sonu said that the bus arranged for the operation became completely full due to the large number of people brought in, and even officials had to travel standing. He said that using children for begging is a serious matter and strict action will continue with the cooperation of the administration.
He emphasized that children should be studying and building their future rather than begging. Those who force children into begging should face strict legal action. He added that efforts would also be made to connect the children with education and help them build a brighter future so that they can contribute to the progress of society and the country.
