Chandigarh, June 25 (K.L. Jit Walia):A significant meeting of various farmers’, workers’, and social organizations was held today at Kisan Bhawan, Sector 35-A, Chandigarh. During the meeting, participants held detailed discussions on the proposed India–US Trade Deal and its potential adverse impact on farmers, laborers, livestock rearers, small traders, and the country’s food and economic sovereignty.
Representatives from several organizations, including SKM (Non-Political), AKM Punjab Forum (Azad Kisan Morcha Punjab), Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha Haryana, Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh, SKM (32 organizations), and the All India MSP Morcha, attended the meeting. Farmer representatives from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and several other states also participated.
The participating organizations unanimously resolved to launch a united nationwide movement against the proposed India–US Trade Deal. Speakers expressed concern that the agreement could seriously threaten the interests of farmers, livestock rearers, workers, and the general public. They pledged to set aside differences and fight together on a common platform.
To finalize the future course of action, it was decided to convene another meeting on July 1, 2026, at Kisan Bhawan, Sector 35-A, Chandigarh, where five key representatives from each participating organization will formulate a detailed strategy, finalize the protest programme, and discuss the next phase of the movement.
The organizations also decided to invite farmer, labor, and social groups that could not attend the current meeting, ensuring broader participation and a stronger united front against the proposed trade agreement.
The leaders asserted that no compromise would be accepted on issues concerning agriculture, livestock, employment, and food security. They warned that if the government ignores the concerns of farmers and workers, the joint platform would be compelled to launch a nationwide agitation.
