Chandigarh, June 6 (K.L. Jit Walia): A special literary gathering and trilingual poets’ meet was organized by Sahitya Vigyan Kendra Chandigarh at the Community Centre, Sector 43, Chandigarh.
The presidium for the event included Mrs. Prem Lata (Councillor), Shri K.K. Sharda (Chairman, Khadi Seva Sangh), Shri Prem Vij (Senior Litterateur), Dr. Avtar Singh Patang (Senior Litterateur), and Gurdarshan Singh Mavi, President of the organization.
Welcoming the participants, Gurdarshan Singh Mavi appreciated the valuable contribution of writers and poets to society. During the event, tributes were paid through a moment of silence to the wife of renowned Hindi poet Dr. Chander Trikha and to journalist and author Swaran Singh Bhangu of Chamkaur Sahib.
The programme commenced with a poetry recital by Prem Vij, who also highlighted the significance of such literary events. Pratap Paras captivated the audience with a melodious rendition of his ghazal.
Hindi poets including Dr. Sangeeta Sharma Kundra, Vimla Guglani, Dr. Nirmal Sood, Dr. Vinod Sharma, Vijay Kapoor, Harinder Sinha, and Rajinder Kaur presented meaningful poems reflecting social concerns and contemporary issues.
Punjabi literary contributors Ratan Babakwala (accompanied by Tumbi), Sarabjit Singh Padda, Gurdas Singh Das (with Tumbi), Davinder Kaur Dhillon, Labh Singh Lehali (with Tumbi), and Bharpur Singh presented self-composed songs that were highly appreciated by the audience.
Gurdarshan Singh Mavi, Balwinder Singh Dhillon, Ramandeep Kaur Ramneek, Narendra Kaur Longia, and Pyara Singh Rahi also presented ghazals and poems, enriching the literary atmosphere of the event.
Addressing the gathering, Prem Lata stated that her services would always remain dedicated to literary personalities, adding that writers play a crucial role in preserving the culture, history, and traditions of the nation.
K.K. Sharda praised the programme and remarked that organizing a combined event featuring Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, and English literature is a commendable initiative that promotes cultural harmony.
Concluding the event, Dr. Avtar Singh Patang thanked all participants and emphasized that it is the power of “words” that keeps people connected and united.
