Both arrested accused are habitual offenders: Police Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar
Amritsar, June 3 (K.L. Jit Walia): In a major breakthrough under the Punjab Government’s ongoing campaign to make the state safe and secure, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have busted a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module by arresting two accused and recovering 2.225 kilograms of heroin, six sophisticated pistols, and 12 live cartridges from their possession.
Disclosing the details, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said that the arrested accused have been identified as Sukhdev Singh alias Sukh (23), a resident of Village Chicha, Amritsar, and Harjinder Singh alias Jinder (37), a resident of Village Lodhi Gujjar, Amritsar. Both are habitual offenders and have previous criminal cases registered against them, including kidnapping and illegal possession of arms.
The recovered weapons include one China-made .30 bore pistol, two Austria-made 9mm Glock pistols, one USA-made 9mm Glock pistol, and two Turkey-made .30 bore pistols.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were in contact with cross-border smugglers and were allegedly receiving consignments of heroin and weapons dropped through drones from across the border. They further supplied these consignments to criminal elements operating in Punjab.
He added that further investigations are underway to identify other members linked to the network and to trace both backward and forward linkages of the smuggling module.
Police Commissioner Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said that acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams arrested Sukhdev Singh alias Sukh and recovered 2.225 kilograms of heroin from his possession. Preliminary inquiries indicated his active involvement in drug trafficking.
During further investigation, police identified and arrested Harjinder Singh alias Jinder and recovered four pistols from him. Based on disclosures made by the accused, two more pistols were subsequently recovered from a location identified by him.
The Police Commissioner further informed that Sukhdev Singh alias Sukh was already wanted in a case registered at Chheharta Police Station, in which four of his associates had earlier been arrested with seven pistols and 12 live cartridges.
In this connection, two separate cases have been registered: FIR No. 115 dated May 26, 2026, under Sections 21 and 21-C of the NDPS Act at Chheharta Police Station, and FIR No. 93 dated May 29, 2026, under Section 25(8) of the Arms Act at Cantonment Police Station. Further investigation is in progress.
