Jit Walia):For city residents who have long been troubled by traffic jams, dust, and poorly managed diversions due to the Loharka Road flyover, a big and positive development has once again emerged. Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla reached the site late at night along with a team of officials and engineers to personally inspect the Loharka flyover project.
During the visit, MP Aujla held detailed discussions with officials regarding the flyover’s design. Standing in the middle of the road, he carefully observed the existing traffic flow and provided engineers with necessary technical suggestions based on ground realities, so that people could get relief from traffic congestion and accidents in the future. He also reviewed the progress report of the construction work and issued clear instructions to speed up the project.
Work Resumed Earlier Due to MP’s Intervention
It is noteworthy that when the Loharka flyover project had remained stalled for a long time, it was only after persistent intervention and pressure from MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla that the project was restarted. Following this, the design has now been finalized and construction work is currently underway with machinery on site. During the inspection, MP Aujla said that strict monitoring of the project will now be ensured, and that he does not hesitate to take to the streets himself to provide relief to the public.
He further stated that the Loharka Road flyover is an important part of the NHAI bypass project. Due to the prolonged halt in construction, people had to face severe difficulties. Poorly planned diversions led to massive traffic jams during peak hours and often resulted in accident-like situations. Additionally, road damage caused by water pipeline work spread dust and debris all around, making life extremely difficult for local residents and shopkeepers. However, he assured that people would now get relief soon.
After nearly two years of delay, the Loharka flyover project resumed in mid-2025. Discussions are also underway about connecting it to the Gumtala Bypass, which is expected to significantly reduce traffic pressure in this part of Amritsar.
MP Aujla’s late-night site visit and direct interaction with officials clearly sent a strong message that negligence regarding the Loharka flyover will no longer be tolerated. Local residents also met the MP during the inspection and expressed hope that after this active intervention, the construction work will soon gain momentum and they will finally get relief from the long-standing problems.
