Amritsar, January 2 (K. L. Jit Walia):Ranjit Singh Masoun, President of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Journalist Association (Regd.), stated that journalists played a crucial role in the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab in 2022. With hopes of major change, journalists rejected other political parties and supported the formation of the AAP government.
He said that despite this, it is highly condemnable and unfortunate that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has allowed false FIRs to be registered against independent journalists and RTI activists. This has exposed the anti-journalist face of the Aam Aadmi Party government. Since the formation of the AAP government in Punjab, journalists have continuously been booked in false cases on one pretext or another, and the government will have to face the consequences of this in the year 2027.
Ranjit Singh Masoun further said that the case registered against RTI activist Manik Goyal, iWorld TV journalist Mintu Gurusria, Lok Awaz TV journalist Maninderjeet Sidhu, and other journalists is an attempt to suppress the voice of the fourth pillar of democracy. This is a baseless effort to hide the failures of the AAP government, which the journalist community will never tolerate.
He alleged that this action is being carried out at the behest of the AAP’s Delhi high command, as Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia have realized that their true face has been exposed before the public. The Shaheed Bhagat Singh Journalist Association stands firmly with the affected journalists and RTI activists and demands the immediate withdrawal of this false FIR.
On this occasion, Chairman Shri Ramesh Rampura, Vice Chairman Dalvir Singh Bharowal, Vice Presidents Rajnish Kaushal and Raghav Arora, General Secretary Joga Singh Rajput, Treasurer Shri Harish Suri, along with Kushal Sharma, Vishal Sharma, Vardhan, Somya, Varinder Dhunna, Maninder Singh Dhillon, and others were present.
