Amritsar, May 3 (K.L. Jit Walia):In a major breakthrough under the Punjab Government’s ongoing campaign to make the state safe as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted another cross-border arms smuggling module by arresting four accused and recovering seven sophisticated pistols from their possession.
This information was shared by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
Samarbir Singh alias Simar (21), resident of Mahindra Colony, Amritsar
Satnam Singh alias Satta (23), resident of Village Fatehpur, Tarn Taran, currently residing in Krishna Nagar, Amritsar
Tanuprit Singh (26), resident of Pratap Nagar, Amritsar
Karanjot Singh alias Sajan (26), resident of Krishna Nagar, Amritsar
The recovered weapons include:
Two Austria-made 9mm Glock pistols
Four China-made .30 bore pistols
One additional .30 bore pistol
DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation suggests that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms. He said the illegal weapon consignments were sent across the border via drones and later distributed among criminal elements through local operatives.
He added that backward and forward linkages of the network are being investigated to identify other associates.
Sharing details of the operation, Police Commissioner Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that acting on secret information, police first arrested accused Samarbir alias Simar in a planned operation and recovered two Glock pistols from him.
Subsequent interrogation led to the arrest of his three associates—Satnam alias Satta, Tanuprit Singh, and Karanjot alias Sajan—and based on their disclosures, five more pistols were recovered.
The Police Commissioner further stated that accused Satnam alias Satta had previously been involved in a narcotics case involving the recovery of 8 kg heroin. He added that Satnam and Karanjot lived in the same neighborhood and were working together on the instructions of a Pakistan-based handler.
Investigation has also revealed that all the arrested accused are well-educated and had previously worked as salesmen in a private firm. They all reside in nearby localities and knew each other well.
In this connection, FIR No. 70 dated 30-04-2026 has been registered at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar, under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
