Amritsar, April 24 (K.L. Jit Walia) – Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla launched a sharp attack following reports that seven Rajya Sabha MPs from Aam Aadmi Party have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He described the development as the beginning of AAP’s downfall and claimed that the party’s exit from Punjab in 2027 is certain.
Aujla stated that the development would have little impact on Punjab’s politics, arguing that those who switched sides were not mass leaders but individuals with a “business mindset” who had been nominated to the Rajya Sabha by AAP while overlooking dedicated party workers. He emphasized that these MPs were not directly elected by the people of Punjab.
He further said the episode exposes that AAP’s foundation is based on opportunism rather than ideology. “You reap what you sow,” he remarked, criticizing the party leadership.
Targeting the BJP as well, Aujla alleged that it does not practice ethical politics and instead relies on pressure tactics and agencies, especially in regions where its grassroots support is weak. He asserted that this defection would neither benefit Punjab nor bring any significant political gain to the BJP.
Aujla also accused AAP of ignoring constitutional values during its tenure, targeting media institutions, and misusing vigilance mechanisms in Punjab. According to him, the BJP is now adopting similar methods through agencies.
He went on to claim that AAP lacks a clear ideological base and came to power through false promises. As reality unfolds, he said, the party’s weaknesses are being exposed. Calling it a “dark phase” in political history, he noted that such a large-scale defection of seven Rajya Sabha MPs at once is unprecedented.
Concluding his remarks, Aujla said the development highlights not only AAP’s internal weaknesses but also proves that politics without principles cannot sustain for long. He expressed confidence that the people of Punjab will respond decisively in 2027.
