Tarn Taran, August 10 (Iqbal Singh Ahluwalia): An important meeting of Zone Tanda of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab, Tarn Taran district, was held at Sri Goindwal Sahib under the leadership of Zone President Kulwant Singh Bhail and Jawahar Singh Tanda. Issuing a press note, Media In-charge Joginder Singh said that serious concerns were raised during the meeting regarding the proposed Campa Cola factory in Sri Goindwal Sahib.
Addressing the meeting, Goindwal Sahib Unit President Davinder Singh Gill said that, according to the concerns raised by the farmer leaders, the proposed Campa Cola factory would extract around 3.04 million litres of groundwater every day. The farmer leaders expressed apprehension that this could affect the groundwater level and potentially have an adverse impact on agricultural land across an area of 10 to 15 kilometres. They said that such a development could further worsen the situation of farmers who are already facing economic difficulties.

The farmer leaders further expressed concern over the possibility of chemically contaminated wastewater entering the ground, which, they said, could create environmental and public health concerns in the area. They demanded that the administration seriously examine the issue and address the concerns of local residents.
The farmer leaders said they had been meeting the Deputy Commissioner, SSP and SDM and other concerned officials several times since January and had also submitted memorandums regarding the issue. They alleged that no satisfactory action had been taken so far. They warned that if the administration and government failed to take the matter seriously, the organisation would be compelled to launch a prolonged agitation, for which they held the administration and government responsible.
