Goindwal Sahib, August 7 (Iqbal Singh Ahluwalia, Navjit Sonu): With the aim of protecting the environment and promoting greenery, the 376th Guru Nanak Memorial Forest was established at Central Jail Goindwal Sahib under the guidance of Padma Shri Baba Sewa Singh, head of Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib. A total of 670 saplings belonging to 50 different species were planted on the occasion, including fruit-bearing, flowering, shade-giving and medicinal plants.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Khadur Sahib Sanjeev Sharma, Superintendent of Central Jail Goindwal Sahib Manjit Singh Tiwana, Dr. Yadvinder Singh from the Agriculture Department, jail staff members Jatinderpal Singh and Gurjant Singh, along with other officials and employees, were present during the initiative.
Baba Kuldeep Singh, along with his team from Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib, specially reached the site and successfully carried out the plantation drive.
Speaking on the occasion, the participants said that trees are an invaluable gift of nature to humanity. They emphasized that protecting the environment is the responsibility of every individual in accordance with the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. They also appealed to people to plant more trees and ensure their proper care and maintenance.
Dr. Yadvinder Singh of the Agriculture Department played a special role in establishing the memorial forest. He contributed significantly to the selection of saplings, planning and scientific development of the forest.
