Amritsar, February 7 (K. L. Jit Walia):President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Harmeet Singh Kalka and General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon have appealed to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, to immediately excommunicate Harvinder Singh Sarna, senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal and former President of the Delhi Gurdwara Committee, from the Sikh Panth.
While speaking on the matter, President Kalka and Secretary Kahlon said that after meeting Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in Parliament, Harvinder Singh Sarna not only gave a so-called clean chit to the Gandhi family in connection with the 1984 attack on Sri Darbar Sahib and Sri Akal Takht Sahib, but also stated that the attack was carried out merely on an “edifice” of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. They said that referring to this sacred seat—symbol of Sikh sovereignty and authority—as just a “building” is a very serious offence and unacceptable in Sikh tradition.
Kalka and Kahlon further said that Sarna seems to have forgotten the massacre of Sikhs that took place in various parts of Delhi. They added that earlier also an appeal had been made to Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, stating that if Harvinder Singh Sarna was officially sent by the party to meet Rahul Gandhi, that would be a different matter; but if not, then he should be immediately expelled from the party.
They stressed that such statements deeply hurt Sikh sentiments and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
