Amritsar, September 7 (K.L. Jit Walia): Residents of Kripal Colony, located opposite Pillar No. 46 on Batala Road, have alleged that they have been facing severe inconvenience due to a prolonged sewerage blockage and unhygienic conditions. The issue came to light after local residents approached Senior Deputy Mayor Priyanka Sharma, who visited the area with her team to inspect the situation.
According to local residents, a private hospital located on Batala Road had a new electricity transformer installed on the footpath to provide power supply to the building. They alleged that during the installation work, the sewerage pipeline serving houses in the adjoining lane was damaged, leading to sewerage blockage, overflowing waste and severe sanitation problems.
After inspecting the site, Senior Deputy Mayor Priyanka Sharma contacted Powercom officials and directed them to take steps to shift the transformer. She also instructed the management of the hospital and diagnostic centre to ensure proper sewerage connections and to repair blocked sewerage chambers in the colony lane at the earliest.
Priyanka Sharma said that residents should not be made to suffer due to infrastructure arrangements made for a private hospital or diagnostic centre. She stated that work to repair the allegedly damaged sewerage pipeline would be initiated at the site and employees had also begun work related to shifting the transformer.
Residents Forced to Leave Homes Due to Unhygienic Conditions
Local resident Harjinder Singh said that living in the area had become extremely difficult because of the unhygienic conditions. He alleged that several residents had temporarily left their homes and moved to relatives’ houses due to fears of illness.
According to residents, contaminated water and accumulated waste have created serious health concerns, while children in the locality are also facing difficulties and reportedly falling ill.

After inspecting the area and speaking with officials and representatives of the hospital, Senior Deputy Mayor Priyanka Sharma assured residents that the problem would be resolved as soon as possible. She said necessary directions had been issued to the concerned authorities for immediate action.
