Amritsar, August 10 (Phuljit Singh Verpal, Manjit Singh Mehra): The Holy City Township Association celebrated the Teej festival with great enthusiasm and cultural fervour, dedicating the event to Punjab’s rich culture and heritage. A unique feature of the celebration was the active participation of men alongside women, with both groups adding colour to the event through energetic Giddha and Bhangra performances.
Women dressed in traditional Punjabi attire presented a spectacular performance of Giddha, the traditional Punjabi folk dance. Their performance captivated the women and guests present at the celebration.
Speaking on the occasion, former Registrar of Guru Nanak Dev University, Prof. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, said that such cultural festivals remind people of their roots and help the younger generation become familiar with Punjab’s rich heritage.
He said that the identity and existence of any society are closely connected with its culture. Communities that preserve and keep their rich cultural traditions alive provide valuable lessons for future generations.
Prof. Dhillon appealed to Punjabis to remain closely connected with their culture and enjoy their rich heritage. He said that those who preserve their culture and heritage are among the richest people in the world. He added that the rich heritage of Punjab is an important part of Punjabi identity and preserving it is the responsibility of everyone.
On the occasion, the Holy City Township Association announced its decision to celebrate the Teej festival every year with the objective of keeping Punjab’s traditional culture and heritage alive. The association said that such events play an important role in connecting the younger generation with Punjabi culture, traditions and customs.
Following the Giddha performance by the women, the men also joined in and presented an energetic Bhangra performance. The entire hall was filled with the vibrant colours of Punjabi culture, creating a festive atmosphere.
Several serving and former professors of Guru Nanak Dev University, along with senior officers retired from various government departments, participated in the programme.
