Sardar Teja Singh Samundari’s Legacy Continues to Inspire the Younger Generation: Taranjit Singh Sandhu
Amritsar, August 10 (K.L. Jit Walia): Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that Sardar Teja Singh Samundari’s vision of equality, education, service and social responsibility remains equally relevant even today. He said the younger generation should draw inspiration from his life and contributions.
Addressing the gathering during a special play dedicated to the life and contribution of Sardar Teja Singh Samundari at Guru Nanak Dev University, Mr. Sandhu said that knowing one’s history is important because it contains values and ideas that can continue to guide society even in the present times.
At the beginning of the programme, Guru Nanak Dev University Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjit Singh warmly welcomed the chief guest, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and other guests. Remembering Sardar Teja Singh Samundari’s life and contribution, he highlighted the importance of efforts aimed at taking historical subjects and personalities to the younger generation.
Dean Academic Affairs Dr. H.S. Saini, Registrar K.S. Chahal, Dr. Avtar Singh from Amandeep Hospital, playwright and theatre personality Kewal Dhaliwal and other distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
A special exhibition featuring rare and memorable photographs related to Sardar Teja Singh Samundari’s life and the historical events of his era was also organised. Several historic photographs and glimpses of important events associated with his life were displayed, attracting the attention of guests, students and visitors.
This was followed by a play based on the life of Sardar Teja Singh Samundari. The play was directed by renowned theatre personality Kewal Dhaliwal. Through the performance, his life, ideas, struggles and contribution to society were presented in an impactful manner.
Appreciating the performance, Mr. Sandhu congratulated director Kewal Dhaliwal and the entire theatre team. He said theatre is a powerful medium through which history can not only be read but also experienced and conveyed effectively to the younger generation.
Mr. Sandhu said that the period from 1920 to 1926 was highly significant in the history of Punjab and Sikh leadership. During this period, Punjab played an important role in the national freedom movement and strengthened the values of non-violent struggle, equality and social reform.
He appealed to young people and parents to discuss the history of Punjab and the contributions of its great personalities with their children. He said education was an important instrument of social transformation at that time and continues to be the greatest source of empowerment for young people today.
He urged students to make their lives “impactful” and contribute something meaningful to society. Referring to the “Power of One,” he said that every individual has the potential to bring about positive change in society.
Mr. Sandhu also appreciated the efforts of Guru Nanak Dev University to connect students with new technologies and emerging fields such as artificial intelligence. He appealed to successful individuals, teachers and experienced professionals to share their knowledge and experience with the younger generation.
At the conclusion of the programme, the chief guest Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu, along with the artists who performed various roles in the play, were honoured. Director Kewal Dhaliwal was specially felicitated for his significant contribution to the production.
