Amritsar, June 14 (K.L. Jit Walia, Manpreet Singh Sethi) – With the support of the Young Malang Theatre Welfare Society, the Punjabi play Dhuan was successfully and impressively staged on June 14 at the Art Gallery, Amritsar. The play was written by Reena Kundra and directed by Sajan Kapoor.
The play focused on a serious contemporary issue—air pollution and smoke caused by stubble burning. Through a compelling narrative, the audience was made aware of how smoke from crop residue burning not only harms the environment but also poses a serious threat to human health. The production highlighted respiratory and other health-related problems caused by pollution while also presenting government policies and initiatives aimed at addressing the issue in a simple and engaging manner.
One of the most notable aspects of the play was its balanced approach. Rather than blaming any particular group, it sensitively portrayed the communication gap and lack of awareness that often exist between farmers and government agencies. The socially relevant performance encouraged the audience to reflect on the issue and consider practical solutions.
The cast included Sandy Chatha, Karanbir Singh, Gurpreet Dhillon, Monica, Malika, Neera Garg, Jasmeet Nayar, Indu Arora, Sonia, Shivani Ahuja, Neeru Gupta, Chetna, and Shivani Khurana, all of whom delivered remarkable performances and won appreciation from the audience.
The choreography was designed by Sanpreet, while the music was composed by Harinder Sohal, whose contribution significantly enhanced the emotional impact of the production.
The success of the play was also made possible through the efforts of the production team, including Deepa Swani, Deepika Bhalla, Seema Maheshwari, Tina Agarwal, Taru Peshawaria, and Ruby Swani. Their dedication and hard work helped transform the play into a memorable theatrical experience.
The event received valuable support from the Ministry of Culture and the Indian Fine Arts Academy, whose cooperation played an important role in bringing this socially relevant production to the audience.
Following the performance, the audience highly appreciated the play’s theme, direction, acting, music, and overall presentation, describing it as a meaningful and timely effort to spread awareness in society.
