Amritsar (KL JIT WALIA):- Awareness Campaign “Youth Against Drugs” Held in Amritsar
Under the esteemed leadership of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), and under the able guidance of the Hon’ble Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, S.A.S. Nagar, and Ms. Jatinder Kaur, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Amritsar, Sh. Amardeep Singh Bains, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar organized awareness seminars under the ongoing “Youth Against Drugs” campaign.
An awareness programme was conducted on 31.12.2025 at Central Jail, Amritsar, with the supervision and cooperation of the Jail Authorities. The programme was conducted by dedicated teams comprising Legal Aid Defence Counsels (LADCs), along with officials from the office of the District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar.
During the programme, participants were sensitized about the serious physical, psychological, social, and legal consequences of drug abuse. The speakers emphasized the importance of awareness, prevention, and rehabilitation, and highlighted the role of legal services institutions in supporting individuals affected by substance abuse. The session encouraged positive lifestyle choices and motivated inmate-participants to contribute towards building a drug-free society.
In addition to the programme held at Central Jail, Amritsar, awareness activities under the “Youth Against Drugs” campaign were also conducted across various villages and other locations in District Amritsar. These outreach programmes were carried out by teams of Panel Advocates and Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), who actively engaged with youth and members of the general public to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and the legal remedies available.
The overarching objective of the campaign was to educate and empower youth and the community at large, promote legal awareness, and encourage collective efforts towards eliminating drug abuse. The District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar reaffirmed its commitment to continue such initiatives in collaboration with community stakeholders to foster a healthier and drug-free society. Para Legal Volunteers working under DLSA, Amritsar also sensitized youth through various seminars organized at different locations across District Amritsar.
