Recovered illegal weapons were allegedly meant to be supplied to criminal elements in Punjab: Police Commissioner Harmanbir Gill
Amritsar, September 10 (K.L. Jit Walia / Arun Sharma): In a major breakthrough in the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a safer state, launched under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have busted an illegal weapons supply network and arrested three accused persons with two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 50 live cartridges.
The information was shared by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.
The arrested persons have been identified as Gurmukh Singh (27), a resident of village Chatiwind in Amritsar Rural; Parasdeep Singh (26), a resident of Bhai Manj Road, Amritsar; and Gurjant Singh (24), a resident of village Jod Singh Wala, Tarn Taran.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with an arms smuggler based abroad and were involved in supplying illegal weapons to criminal elements.
He said further investigation is underway to identify other persons involved, verify foreign smuggling links and expose the wider network involved in the illegal arms supply.
Sharing details of the operation, Police Commissioner (CP) Amritsar Harmanbir Singh Gill said that acting on intelligence-based information, the police arrested two suspects, Gurmukh Singh and Parasdeep Singh, and recovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 50 live cartridges from them.
The Police Commissioner said that during further investigation, the arrested accused allegedly disclosed that the illegal weapons had been obtained through Gurjant Singh. Based on their disclosure, Gurjant Singh was nominated in the case and subsequently arrested.
In this connection, FIR No. 205 dated September 5, 2026, has been registered at Chheharta Police Station, Amritsar, under Sections 111 and 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25(6,7,8) of the Arms Act.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
