Amritsar, July 23 (Uppal): Under the leadership of Divisional Railway Manager Sanjeev Kumar, the Firozpur Railway Division has achieved another milestone in the transportation of perishable fruits by rail. Between July 18 and July 22, 2026, a total of 8.73 tonnes of mangoes were dispatched from Ludhiana to Howrah in 293 packages through Train No. 13006 Howrah Mail.
Rail transport has enabled the mangoes to be delivered quickly, safely, and cost-effectively, helping preserve their quality for a longer period. This has provided farmers and traders with better opportunities to transport their produce to major markets across the country.
A significant development is that small traders are now joining hands with larger traders to send consignments of perishable fruits by rail to markets in different states. This not only expands their market reach but also reduces transportation costs.
Rail Freight Benefiting Farmers and Traders
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Freight) Parmdeep Singh Saini said that the Firozpur Division is continuously working to provide customers with reliable, efficient, and timely freight transportation services.
He added that the Division’s Business Development Unit has been actively coordinating with traders, resulting in a significant increase in freight movement.
He further stated that the division will continue encouraging the rail transportation of perishable agricultural products, ensuring that farmers and traders have access to fast, safe, and economical logistics to markets across India.
